Move to Nisaba

Import Chrome bookmarks into Nisaba

Bring Chrome bookmarks into Nisaba from an HTML file or from the extension. You see a preview before anything is saved.

You can bring your Chrome bookmarks into Nisaba in two ways. Upload the HTML file that Chrome exports, or import them from the Nisaba extension without a file. Both open an import preview, and nothing is saved until you choose Import.

Way 1: the HTML file

  1. In Chrome, open chrome://bookmarks.
  2. Open the three-dot menu and choose Export bookmarks. Chrome saves an HTML file.
  3. In Nisaba, choose Import in the sidebar. Under Where are your bookmarks?, pick Browser.
  4. Drop the file on the page or choose Choose file. Files up to 10 MB work.
  5. Check how many links were found, then choose Continue to preview.

Pick a source, follow its export steps and add your file.

Note: Nisaba reads the format from the file itself, so picking the wrong source does no harm. Chrome's raw Bookmarks JSON file works too.

Way 2: the extension, no file

This needs version 2.1 or later of the Nisaba extension. The extension is available for Chrome only and needs Chrome 120 or newer.

  1. Open the extension's Settings and choose Import bookmarks. Your Chrome bookmark folders appear.
  2. Tick the folders to include. Select all and Select none help with large trees.
  3. Choose Import selected bookmarks. Nisaba opens the import preview, where you continue as with a file.
The extension's Import Chrome bookmarks section with the folders Bookmarks bar, Design, Engineering, Reading list, Recipes, Travel 2026 and Other bookmarks ticked, 17 of 17 web links selected, and the Import selected bookmarks button
Pick the folders in the extension; the preview opens in Nisaba.

The extension reads your bookmarks only when you start this, and sends only the folders you pick.

Preview and options

The preview shows the new links, the links that are already saved, links repeated in the file, the folders and the most used tags. In the sample file used for the screenshot, Nisaba found 18 new links, 4 already saved and 1 repeated in the file.

The preview counts new links and duplicates before anything is saved.
  • Skip links that are already saved: matches the same page even with a different tracking parameter, www or trailing slash. This is recommended.
  • Create a workspace for each top-level folder: sub-folders become groups. Turn it off to put everything in Inbox. On Free you can have 3 workspaces besides Inbox, and the links of further folders go to Inbox.

The import runs in the background. You can leave the page, and a notice appears when it is finished. The import report shows what was added, which duplicates were skipped and what could not be imported.

Limits

  • Bookmark files can hold up to 10 MB and 50,000 items.
  • Chrome page icons, tags and notes do not come over.
  • The extension is for Chrome only. For Edge, Firefox or Safari, export a bookmark file and upload it.
  • Nisaba needs an internet connection, and there is no native mobile app yet.
